The waste that is being produced is not something that can continue. It is my understanding that some people see the waste problem through rose tinted glasses. Two influential areas for change are the proximity of friends/ neighbours who recycle frequently and also the ease of recycling. However, the perspective of people needs to change. One direction of the project will be towards awareness and causing a lasting change
Importantly, men are worse at recycling that women. This is due to recycling being related to caring and the domestic environment, therefore being feminine. Because of this connection men have an unconscious tendency to recycle less and this is having a large impact on production of plastic waste. This leaves an area for men to promote and develop their image in a positive way through recycling
